Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni has a busy agenda for his two-day visit to New York. Regional crises, combating violent extremism, economic development with a special focus on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, and Italy’s high-profile role vis-à-vis migration and the situation in Libya will be the key topics to be addressed in his meetings with African and Arab Permanent Representatives to the UN. Mr Gentiloni will also attend the meeting of the Italy-Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS) Partnership Joint Committee that will take place ahead of the Symposium in Rome on March 7 – 9 on the Protection of Oceans and Coastal Areas.
The Minister will speak at the seminar “Beyond turmoil: challenges and opportunities in the Mediterranean” promoted by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), one the most qualified independent foreign policy think-tanks. His speech will focus on the challenges, opportunities and future prospects in the Mediterranean area in the midst of regional crises, migration emergency and terrorist threats.
