Washington – USA, Ambassador Varricchio presents his credentials to Obama

Italy’s new ambassador to the United States, Armando Varricchio, presented his credentials to the President of the United States, Barack Obama, at the White House today. At the end of the ceremony, Ambassador Varricchio said: “In the very cordial meeting held in the Oval Office I emphasised that I intend to perform my mandate with my utmost commitment and determination. The sound ties of friendship and commonality of values between Italy and the United States are essential in improving the wellbeing of our citizens and in promoting peace, democracy and the protection of rights. President Obama recalled, in the friendliest possible terms, his recent meeting with President Mattarella at the White House and the close collaboration with Prime Minister Renzi on the most relevant international issues on the global agenda.” Ambassador Varricchio succeeds Claudio Bisogniero, the Ambassador of Italy to the United States since 2012.
