Raising the interest of the international community for Iraq and the awareness of Iraqis for their own cultural heritage is the common goal of Iraq’s State Board of Antiquities and Heritage and of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. To this end, the two institutions will sign a Protocol of Understanding relative to a bilateral exhibition project with the Archaeological Museum of Baghdad and to the development of a scientific research and training programme. The signing ceremony will open the conference entitled “The Mask of Warka in the Iraq Museum” on Tuesday, 12 April, at 4 p.m. at Ca’ Dolfin (Venice). The event is organised by the Ca’ Foscari University, the Italian National Commission for UNESCO and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The Iraqi speakers will illustrate the situation of the Country’s archaeological heritage and the strategies envisaged to protect it. The event will be opened by the University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, Tiziana Lippiello, followed with contributions by Flavio Gregori, Pro-Rector for the University’s Cultural Activities and Relations; Paolo Eleuteri, Director of the Department of Humanistic Studies; and Minister Gianludovico De Martino, Chairman of the Foreign Ministry’s Inter-ministerial Committee for Human Rights.
