Italian literature will be featured at the International Book Fair of Thessaloniki, the largest publishing industry event in Greece and the Balkans. The Italian Institute of Culture in Athens has organised the presentation of two works recently translated into Greek, together with an event commemorating Umberto Eco. It starts on Saturday with “Hanna Never Closes her Eyes” (“Hanna non chiude mai gli occhi”) by Luigi Ballerini , who will present the book to the public, along with journalist Iannis Chrysafis, moderated by Antonio Crescenzi, a researcher and associate of the Institute. The novel tells the story of Hanna and Josef in Nazi-occupied Thessaloniki, and explores the massive deportation of Jews and the risks taken by Italian Consul Guelfo Zamboni and Captain Lucillo Merci to save as many lives as possible.
