New York – Italian Ambassador in Washington, Armando Varricchio, congratulates Chef Massimo Bottura after the proclamation of his “Osteria Francescana”

The Foreign Ministry hails Italy’s haute cuisine around the world and Italian haute cuisine at the top of world rankings. The “Osteria Francescana” restaurant in Modena – Italy’s first since the award was created – was elected the best restaurant in the world in the 2016 edition of “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants”, the prestigious international award that was held in New York.

The success of Chef Massimo Bottura and his “Osteria Francescana” contributes to heighten the international prestige of Italian haute cuisine and high-quality wine and food products. It is one of Italy’s core production sectors and its promotion is one of the cornerstones of the integrated promotion activities conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. This promotion activity also envisages for the network of Italian Embassies and Consulates to organise an “Italian Cuisine Week” next November.
