Sarajevo – From Trieste to Sarajevo, en route to achieving the European dream

Thirty persons, six years of history and four countries. These are the elements involved in “The European Dream. On Route from Trieste to Sarajevo”, an initiative launched six years ago by the Italian Association, Nomad Republic. The aim is to recall, by retracing the destruction of the two World Wars and the conflicts in former Yugoslavia in Countries involved, the founding principles of Europe: dialogue, peace and the wealth of diversity. Yesterday the “Dream” reached Bosnia-Herzegovina. “’The European Dream Reaches Sarajevo’, a group of people who, by walking from Trieste across Europe and the Balkans, testifies to how the values of a united Europe are key in tackling current challenges and in enabling the Continent to remain a laboratory of different civilizations and a space of human rights,” said Italian Ambassador Ruggero Corrias. Ambassador Corrias attended the presentation of the initiative at the Ars Depot-Ars Aevi, which was promoted by the Italian Embassy and the Dante Alighieri Association in Bosnia-Herzegovina. After a few days’ stop in Sarajevo, the walk will resume in order to join up with the annual March of Peace to Srebrenica. The project was launched by Italian writer Antonio Moresco, who wrote: “We are contacting and requesting the participation of cultural organisations and groups of walkers in Italy and in all the other Countries crossed: Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Our aim is to voice the concept, not only with words but especially with the closeness of bodies, minds and hearts and through the metaphorical act of walking, that another Europe is possible and that many of us are already en route to achieve it.”
