Italy-Russia – Debate on ‘realism’ in 20th Century art and culture

The Conference “La Russia e l’Italia: i ‘realismi’ nell’arte e nella cultura del XXmo secolo” (“Russia and Italy: ‘realism’ in 20th Century art and culture”) will be held on Thursday, 24 November, in Moscow. The Conference is part of the cultural and educational programme promoted by the Department of History of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the University of Rome La Sapienza and the Institute of Russian Realist Art, with the support of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Moscow.

The aim of the Programme is to strengthen the artistic and scientific ties between Italian and Russian art and culture experts. The Moscow Conference will discuss a wide range of subjects connected to the concepts of ‘realism’ and ‘realistic’ in the field of art and culture. A similar conference will be held in Italy at the University of Rome La Sapienza in 2017.

The two conferences intend to open a dialogue between Italian and Russian experts to explore the art and culture of the 20th Century, a period during which the contacts, interactions and creative encounters between the artists of the two countries were particularly prolific.
