An Italian air force C-130 aircraft landed today at Meetiga airport near Tripoli carrying pharmaceutical products and healthcare equipment for the capital’s hospital.
The material, which included almost three tonnes of medicines and medical support devices, will ensure primary health care to approximately 10,000 people for 3 months, and specific care for war injuries.
This initiative was carried out in cooperation with the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot, located in Brindisi, and is in response to an urgent request from Libya’s Government of National Accord. It is part of a broader humanitarian aid action Italy is pursuing to support the most vulnerable communities of Libya’s civilian population, and accounts for over 2.5 million euros. This is the fifth time the Italian Cooperation has shipped medicinal products to Libya, and represents a true action of solidarity and concern for the population of the country, which is undergoing a crucial stabilisation phase.
