Undersecretary of State Vincenzo Amendola started off his Australian mission today in Sydney’s Club Marconi where he met the representatives of the Italian community together with the Club’s President Vincenzo Foti and the members of the Board. Later in the morning Mr Amendola visited the SWIAA nursing home, where he addressed a special greeting to the Italian emigrants.
Mr Amendola then attended the Italian Cultural Forum, where he spoke at a public meeting with representatives of the local Italian community and associations. In his address, Mr Amendola recalled “the great attention that the Government focuses on the needs of the Italian communities abroad and in Australia, where Italy has the broadest consular network among the accredited Countries, with a total of five Consulates.”
“The policies for the Italian communities living abroad – Mr Amendola added – represent an investment in consideration of the relevant role that could be played by our large communities abroad in strengthening bilateral economic and cultural ties with the hosting Countries.”
The Undersecretary’s stop in Sydney will continue tomorrow with more institutional appointments: he will be received by the Minister of the Federal Government for International Development and the Pacific, Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, and meet with New South Wales Ministers and Parliamentarians of Italian descent. In the evening, Mr Amendola will meet Mr Joseph Carrozzi, the President of the Italian-Australian Chamber of Commerce, and its Board members.
After Sydney, the Undersecretary’s mission will continue in the city of Melbourne.
