Israel – Haifa celebrates Marcello Mastroianni’s greatest films

Israel celebrates Marcello Mastroianni’s greatest films twenty years after his death.

Sixteen films of one of the most important figures of Italian cinema will be screened at the Cinematheques of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Herzliya, Holon and Sderot, thanks to the ADAMAS (Roma-TEL AVIV) Cultural Association, in partnership with the Italian Cultural Institutes in Tel Aviv and Haifa. Haifa’s programme envisages the showing of the following films in Italian with subtitles in Hebrew and English: “La dolce vita” (1960) at 8:30 p.m. on 20 December, “Oci ciornie” (Dark Eyes, 1987) at 9 p.m. on 25 December and “Matrimonio all’Italiana” (Marriage Italian Style, 1964) at 9 p.m. on 26 December.

Marcello Mastroianni was among the best-known and most acclaimed Italian actors abroad in the ‘60s and ‘70s, especially for the films co-starring Sophia Loren and for his roles in Federico Fellini’s films. Perfectly versatile in both dramatic and comic roles, Mastroianni is on the list of the great artists of Italian comedy together with Vittorio Gassman, Nino Manfredi, Alberto Sordi and Ugo Tognazzi. The event is organised in conjunction with the Cinematheques of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Herzliya, Holon and Sderot, under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Israel.
