The International Expo 2017 – taking place between two Universal Expos, in Milan (2015) and Dubai (2020) – will be held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, from 10 June to 10 September 2017 on the theme “Future Energy”. In the wake of the Paris Climate Agreement and of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the event will showcase the state-of-the-art technologies and policies aimed at reducing CO2 emissions, increasing energy efficiency and promoting alternative energy sources.
More than 110 Countries have decided to participate in the Expo 2017 Astana International. Italy too will be present with a broad range of participants coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) – through the General Commissioner for the Section, the Italian Ambassador in Astana, Stefano Ravagnan – the Ministry of Economic Development (MiSE) and the ICE/Agenzia foreign trade agency, as project manager. The Italian Pavilion, designed by Studio ABDR and whose advanced audiovisual contents are curated by architect Stanislao Cantono Di Ceva, will host among others the stand of the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), most of Italy’s Regional Authorities and more than 20 large and medium-sized energy companies.
The Italian Pavilion, which is adjacent to the pavilions of the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Hungary, and Finland, will extend over an exhibition space of 895 square metres, plus another 700 square metres on the second floor accommodating commercial services, business meeting rooms and a restaurant. Following the first Week of Italian Cuisine in the World held at the end of 2016, at the Astana Expo Italy will also be represented through a high-quality restaurant service made available to the nearly 5 million visitors forecast to come mainly from Kazakhstan and other Central Asian Countries.
