The Foreign Ministry has organised the “First Conference of the Heads of Visa Offices” under the title “Visa Day”.
Dedicated to the Heads of the largest Visa Offices of the Italian diplomatic and consular network, the Conference took place on 27 January with the attendance of officials who were selected by virtue of the complexity of the situation in which they are obliged to operate (number of visas released, the incidence of the risk of migration, the risk of counterfeited documents, etc.).
The conference, organised by DGIT, falls under a lifelong learning programme offered by the Ministry to officials working in this sector, in a phase in which visa policies are acquiring greater visibility and importance, both in promoting Italy’s economic and cultural interests and as an instrument to combat illegal immigration and to protect national security. Within this context, Italy confirms its ranking as the second among Schengen Countries in the number of visas released (more than 1.8 million), generating a tax revenue of almost 95 million euros.
