“Roma/Venezia”, a photographic exhibition by Stefanos Samios, opened in the Greek capital at the premises of the Italian Cultural Institute in Athens. As art historian Antonio Rallis put it, the artist’s images were “inspired by Rome and Venice, two mythical cities from the historical, artistic and cultural standpoint, which we may have already seen but never truly observed. The artist translates into images the sensations these real-life cities evoke through their culture, history, art and reality”.
Samios studied Business Administration at the University of Athens and later obtained a PhD in Economics and Business Decision-Making in Paris. In those years he also enrolled in a Photography course at the Paris VIII -St Dennis, only to subsequently obtain an MA in Applied Photography from London’s Middlesex University. When he returned to Greece, he worked as a free-lance photographer for the media and advertising industries. He also taught photography courses at university level. In 1988, Samos first founded the Phobia and subsequently the Grey Images Studios. He has worked for most Greek magazines and has thought fashion and advertising photography at the Atko Institute.
