Kiev hosts ‘La Cenerentola’ to celebrate Gioacchino Rossini

Kiev’s National Opera Theatre hosts Gioacchino Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” to celebrate the150th anniversary of the  composer’s death. This is a drama giocoso in two acts with a libretto by Jacopo Ferretti. The production’s director is Italo Nunziata. Volodymyr Kozhukhar is the conductor.

“Kiev is hosting “La Cenerentola”, one of Gioacchino Rossini’s masterpieces,  to celebrate the genius of the Pesaro-born composer,” said  Ambassador Davide La Cecilia and added ” It is a project that has been made possible thanks to the cooperation between the Italian Embassy, the Italian Cultural Institute and Ukraine’s main opera theatre, which for  years now has been promoting many joint initiatives of very high level. Besides being one of the most important creators of the Italian bel canto, Rossini was also a well-known gourmet and lover of culinary art.” “This is why – the ambassador added – today’s celebrations are also the beginning of a rich program of events that will take place in Ukraine on the occasion of the 3rd Week of Italian Cuisine in the World. Culture, music and good food are key instruments for an integrated promotion, an extraordinary business card for Italy abroad.”
