Italian Language Week: Lisbon pays a homage to Giorgio Gaber

Neri Marcorè was chosen to open the ‘Italian Language Week in the World’ in Lisbon with a recital staged in the Portuguese capital: “IL SIGNOR G – un omaggio a Giorgio Gaber” (“MISTER G – a Homage to Giorgio Gaber”). In the show, Marcorè acts and sings accompanied by Domenico Mariorenzi, a multi-instrumentalist who almost always appears in his concerts. The performance aims to explore the mocking, eccentric and clownish world of Mr. G, a comically helpless man-in-the-street who questions himself on the sense of his life, constantly skimmed by the risk of idiocy and political apathy. This is what motivated him to recite some excerpts of Gaber’s theatrical plays such as Il sogno in due tempi or La paura, and songs like L’odore, Le elezioni, La pressione bassa, Al bar Casablanca. But Gaber the man was also capable of narrating very deep feelings in songs that are full-fledged poems like L’illogica allegria and Il dilemma, which wound up this tribute to Mr. G.
