Week of Italian Language: Romeo and Juliet in Istria

The Italian Consulate General in Fiume has brought to Istria, in Buie, the travelling performance ‘Romeo and Juliet’, a peculiar show which the Teatro Stabile di Verona has been organizing for over twenty years in the capital city of  the Veneto province.

This time, it was the picturesque historic city centre of Buie to be the ideal frame for the tragedy. The actor and the audience  walked down the city streets, starting from Piazza San Servolo and heading to the cemetary, where the death scene of the two lovers took place. The performance was successful beyond all expectations, involving about 300 people in the scenes of the drama, from the celebrations in the Capulet’s home to the duel between Mercutio and Tybalt.

The performance, directed by Paolo Valerio, took place in the Croatian city, promoted by the Italian Consulate on the occasion of the 19th Week of the Italian Language in the World, devoted to our language on stage, in cooperation with the Institutions in Buie and the Popular Open University.
