The comic strip “Una storia importante. Settant’anni di immigrazione italiana in Belgio e oltre ” is an unpublished work that tells the story of Italian emigration to Belgium.
Created by the artist Antonio Cossu, a Belgian cartoonist of Sardinian origin and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tournai, these strips tell the difficulties but also the road to integration and the success of our many compatriots who moved to Belgium after the Second World War.
The comic strip exploits an agile and innovative way of communication that meets the favour of the young public and these characteristics increase its pedagogical value and make it a privileged means of inspiration and support for young compatriots who today choose the path of emigration abroad, looking for better opportunities. The Directorate General for Italians Citizens Abroad has decided to promote this publishing initiative by financially supporting the Committee of Italians living Abroad of Brussels, Brabant and Flanders, which has materially created this work in one of the “international homelands of comics”, Belgium.
This innovative initiative also has the merit of enhancing the role of the Committees of Italians living Abroad, our representative bodies around the world, which in conjunction with the Italian Consulates, Embassies and Associations are an essential tool in the involvement of local communities, precisely through the promotion of new projects in step with the times, as is the case with comics.
