On 18 October, as part of the 24th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Italian Cultural Institute of Edinburgh organised a discussion at SWG3 in Glasgow, the epicentre of the city’s artistic and musical scene, featuring Italian author Vanni Santoni. The conversation centred around the themes of his latest novel, “Dilaga Ovunque” (Laterza, 2023), which is a finalist for the 2024 Campiello Prize.

Through the stories of some of the most representative artists from the vast world of graffiti and street art, Santoni explored their origins and their relationship with “official” art and public space, in dialogue with Gary Mackay, founder and director of Yardworks, a project at SWG3 that promotes urban art, graffiti, and design through an annual festival, exhibitions, and the first studio dedicated to street art in Scotland.

After creating a fantastic piece inspired by the Italian language, artists Jpeg (Devon) and The Guzler (Dair) joined the conversation, discussing the work of Yardworks within the local community, where their projects help young people and local artists develop their potential.
