Fragments of Italian culture: literature, theater, music and cinema in Chongqing for the ‘Week of the Italian language’ dedicated this year to the Italian used in drama. The nineteenth edition of the event, which was inaugurated at the headquarters of the Consulate General of Italy in Chongqing by the Deputy Consul Davide Castellani, features a program full of initiatives. “Italian – Castellani stated – is the language of architecture, wine, fashion, cinema, literature, design and art, but it is also the language of drama, entertainment and opera” .
Open lessons on the language on stage will alternate with film screenings, theatrical performances and readings of short texts by contemporary Italian authors. This will be followed by a conference-concert on Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata entitled “The Italian language as an instrument of musical imagination” by maestro Roberto Fiore accompanied by the string quintet S. String Quintet. The event will end with a competition on the interpretation of theatrical pieces among the students of the Undergraduate Course on the Italian Language and Culture at the University of International Studies of Sichuan (SISU), the “Nanfang” Institute for Translators of SISU, the Chengdu Institute of the University of International Studies of Sichuan (CISISU) and the students of the Italian Language Courses held at the universities participating in the project “Graduates for Italian”.
