A screening of Italian films and a couple of book presentations are among the events organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Nicosia for Italian Language Week which this year is dedicated to ‘Italian on stage’. Four are the screenings on programme at the Cine Studio cinema theatre at the University of Nicosia: “Puccini and the Girl” (“Puccini e la fanciulla”) by Paolo Benvenuti; “People of Rome (“Gente di Roma”) by Ettore Scola; “Cronofobia” by Francesco Rizzi and “La bella gente” by Ivano De Matteo (2009). The screening in the original Italian version will close with the film “My Daughter’s First Time” (“La prima volta di mia figlia”) by Riccardo Rossi.
Moving now to the literary events, the programme for the Italian Language Week schedules two book presentations by the Cyprus Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society. The first is “La passione di Vivaldi” by Tommaso Cherubini, which will be presented at the attendance of the author. The second is “La misura dell’uomo” by Marco Malvaldi. The Italian Language Week also offered the Italian Embassy the opportunity to promote the participation of Italian director Romeo Castellucci in the Kypria International Festival 2019 with the performance “Giulio Cesare, Pezzi Staccati” and to set up a national stand at the Nicosia Book Fest 2019 to present an overview of Italy’s literary production, especially of contemporary books of fiction, history, architecture, art and on the presence of Italy in Cyprus.
