On the instruction of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Riccardo Guariglia, travelled to Doha yesterday, 4 May, for a series of institutional meetings.
The Secretary General met with the Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, with his counterpart, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmad Hassen Al-Hammadi, and finally with the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister’s adviser, Majed al-Ansari.
During the various discussions, which were characterised by the utmost friendship and cordiality, Ambassador Guariglia was able to take stock of the main bilateral issues of interest within the framework of the excellent political and economic cooperation between Italy and Qatar. He also had an exchange of views on regional and international matters of mutual interest, ranging from the Gaza crisis to Syria, from Libya to Iran.
During his mission, Ambassador Guariglia also met with representatives of the major Italian companies operating in Qatar, emphasising the strong commitment of the Italian Foreign Ministry in supporting Italian businesses abroad, notably through the growth diplomacy strategy promoted by Minister Tajani.
He also had the opportunity to preview the exhibition “Nuovo Paesaggio” by the Italian artist Quayola, supported by the Italian Embassy in Doha, further confirming the strong cultural ties between the two countries and Italy’s commitment to promoting the artistic excellence of our nation.
Finally, the Secretary General of the Italian Foreign Ministry met with the staff of the Italian Embassy in Doha and that of the Embassy in Kabul, temporarily relocated in Qatar. At the latter’s premises, he inaugurated a red bench, a symbolic reminder against violence towards women.
