The five Italian fishing boats and their crews held by the local authorities since yesterday afternoon left Egypt last night to return to Italy. With this announcement, Minister Giulio Terzi expressed his deep satisfaction for this positive outcome, made possible by the timely and effective intervention of our ambassador in Cairo Claudio Pacifico – whom Terzi immediately instructed to take the necessary action – and, above all, by the “extraordinary willingness” on the part of the Egyptian authorities, to whom Terzi expressed the “Italian government’s warmest gratitude”.
“This rapid and positive conclusion to the affair”, the minister explained, “bears witness to the excellent and solid relations between Italy and Egypt, which I was also able to confirm in the series of very fruitful meetings I held just yesterday in the Egyptian capital”.
