“They are finally safe and on their way back to Italy”. With these words Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi announced the conclusion of an episode involving two Italian technicians held in Syria, underscoring his “deep satisfaction” and “profound gratitude to all the State apparatus that worked on securing this result, with the foreign ministry’s Crisis Unit at the top of the list”.
“We await the arrival of these two Italian nationals with immense relief, considering the serious risk they were exposed to in a country where violence reigns and where innocent civilians are most often its victims”.
The foreign ministry took this opportunity to renew the appeal to all Italian citizens, repeatedly insistently by the foreign ministry over recent weeks, to stay away from Syria.
