Evacuation of Italian Cooperation workers in Gaza

The Italian Cooperation workers stuck in Gaza have been successfully evacuated. The operation was monitored from Rome by Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi, and was carried out by the Italian Consulate General in Jerusalem with the support of the Embassy in Tel Aviv and the coordination of the Foreign Ministry’s Crisis Unit.

This morning, once security conditions permitted, nine Italian nationals (8 cooperation workers and one “Focolare Movement” lay missionary) were placed with a convoy requested by the Crisis Unit and Consulate General in Jerusalem and arranged for by the UNWRA.

All nine Italian nationals, in good health, were able to reach the Eretz pass where they were met by Italian diplomats who accompanied them to Jerusalem, where they were received in the Cooperation offices by Consul General Giampaolo Cantini.
