Minister for Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino strongly condemned a bloody attack yesterday in a densely populated suburb south of Beirut, expressing her solidarity with the Lebanese people and government. The bombers’ intention to indiscriminately strike the civilian population, the minister insisted, makes this an especially hideous attack that has left dozens dead and is the worst since the assassination of Prime Minister Hariri in 2005. Minister Bonino urged the Lebanese political forces to continue to support policies of neutrality toward regional crises, in the spirit of the Baadba Declaration and in the interests of safeguarding national unity.
