Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini appointed ambassador to Tripoli Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi Italy’s special envoy for Libya, as other countries either made or planned to make similar appointments.
“It is necessary that the international community act in unison in the search for a solution to the serious crisis in Libya, and the presence of a special envoy with already established contacts in that county will allow for effective coordination with Libyans and other like-minded countries interested in fostering dialogue”, Mogherini said.
“For Italy, the primary role of the United Nations remains indispensable, as Ban Ki-moon also pointed out in our meeting a few days ago”, she added.
