Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini sent US Secretary of State John Kerry the following message for Independence Day:
Dear Mr. Secretary of State,
I wish to extend my sincerest sentiments of friendship to the American people as they celebrate Day of Independence. The occasion offers me an opportunity to recall the depth of our common roots and the strength of our shared commitment to supporting the fundamental values of freedom, peace and democracy, and basic human rights”, the message states.
“Guided by these principles, Italy and the United States are collaborating in many multilateral forums and areas of conflict and crisis that include Ukraine, the Balkans, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Africa. In times such as these, the strong transatlantic bond – closely linked with our bilateral relations, EU-US relations and the NATO Alliance – remains the milestone of Italian foreign policy. With this objective, we shall continue to work together to strengthen peace and security in order to further the cause of human rights and the rule of law, and to promote more equitable, sustainable and lasting growth. Together we can defend our common interests and promote our shared values, guided by the goal of achieving global peace, freedom and economic prosperity for the current generation and those of the future”, Mogherini added.
“Italy’s relations with the United States are strongly rooted in our history and strengthened by our close ties of mutual trust and friendship. And these are founded on the role of the Italian community in the US, and the Americans of Italian descent who are so present in the political, economic, cultural and scientific life of the United States”, she pointed out. “In this spirit of stable partnership, I wish to express my best wishes to you and to all American citizens on this important day of celebration, an opportunity to reaffirm the values of the American dream, which remains a guiding inspiration to us all”.
