The attack on the United Nations school in Beit Hanun is on everyone’s conscience and must convince the parties to the Gaza conflict to call an immediate ceasefire. The call came from Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini in the margins of a visit to Pristina, Kosovo. “This tragedy shows once again how urgent it is to put an immediate end to this conflict,”, she stated, “the defence of civilians and of the UN insignia are principles that must admit no exceptions. I sincerely hope that the international community’s continued and unheeded appeals will finally be heard and that the negotiation efforts under way will be successful”.
