The work of the United National Nations World Water Assessment Programme (UN WWAP) will be illustrated tomorrow, 3 October 2014, at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome. The UN’s World Water Development Report 2014, Water and Energy, will be presented during the event.
Those attending the event, organised at the initiative of the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mario Giro, include the Director General of UNESCO, Ambassador Irina Bokova. This unique occasion will provide an opportunity for discussion by high-level personalities from the institutions and the scientific community on water management issues and the prevention of natural disasters such as tsunamis. The event will be opened by the Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, the Hon. Marina Sereni, and will be addressed by the Ministry for the Environment, Gian Luca Galletti.
The UN has entrusted the World Water Assessment Programme to UNESCO. The WWAP’s mandate is to assess and report on the world’s water resources and to coordinate the work of UN-Water members in drafting the World Water Development Report (WWDR). The WWAP has received financial support from the Italian Government since 2007, in view of our special interest in this strategic and important sector in the broader framework of our country’s participation in the United Nations. Hosted by Umbria Region, the WWAP’s secretariat is located in Perugia.
