The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, has had a discussion with Faiz al Siraj, proposed as premier by the United Nations Envoy for Libya, Bernardino Leon, yesterday evening [11 October 2015]. The proposal comes after months of negotiations. Minister Gentiloni offered al Siraj his best wishes for the rapid installation of the government of national unity.
During their discussion, al Siraj told Minister Gentiloni that the Chamber of Representatives in Tobruk should be discussing the agreement and the names of the members of the new government on Monday and Tuesday [12 and 13 October]. Gentiloni reiterated that Italy supports the UN proposal. Our country is ready to play its part by responding positively to requests from the new Libyan government, in the hope that it will soon receive the go-ahead both in Tobruk and in Tripoli.
