Regeni Case. Italian Embassy receives investigative materials from Egyptian Authorities

The Italian Embassy in Cairo this afternoon received a Note Verbale with which the Egyptian Foreign Ministry has transmitted several of the investigative materials requested by the Italian Government through diplomatic channels in the past few weeks.

The materials have been immediately made available to the Italian investigative team operating in Cairo by order of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rome.

The Italian Foreign Ministry acknowledges the delivery of part of the material requested. The material mainly concerns information on the interrogation of witnesses by Egyptian authorities, the telephone records of Giulio Regeni’s cell phone and a partial summary of the autopsy findings.

The informative material submitted does not yet contain other materials requested in Notes Verbales by the Italian Embassy.

It is a helpful first step. However, the Farnesina believes that the collaboration in investigations must promptly be accomplished in the interest of establishing the truth.
