Italy takes the lead in the Balkans’ EU integration process. But also security, migration emergency, intra-regional and bilateral cooperation. These are the issues on the agenda for the mission to Belgrade of Vincenzo Amendola, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Today he chaired the meeting with the Italian Ambassadors to the Countries of the Adriatic-Balkan area while tomorrow he will be meeting the Prime Minister of Serbia, Mr Vucic.
“In agreement with Minister Gentiloni, the Ambassadors’ coordination meeting was held in the region as a sign of Italy’s attention to Serbia and to the region as a whole at a time of great uncertainty for Europe”, the Undersecretary said.
“Supporting the Balkans on their path towards European integration and strengthening regional cooperation – Amendola added – are priority actions on the agenda of Italy’s Presidency of the Western Balkans Summit that our Country will be hosting in 2017”.
The meetings were also an opportunity for an overview of the other main regional and international issues among which the economic and cultural development of the Balkans, opportunities for investments and growth for Italian businesses, the challenges linked to the management of migration flows, and the fight against international terrorism.
Finally, with regard to security and regional anti-crime cooperation, the software donated by the Italian Anti-Mafia Investigation Department to the Serbian Authorities was presented today.
