The minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, firmly condemns today’s violent attack on a Mogadishu market in which a large number of people, including women and children, lost their lives and many more were seriously injured.
“If Shabaab’s involvement were confirmed – minister Alfano said – it would represent a new and extremely serious attempt to destabilise the democratic process recently launched in Somalia with the election of Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo to the Presidency of the Somalian Federal Republic.”
“We express our closeness and condolences to the Somalian Government and to the families of the victims. Italy stands steady at the side of Somalia in the Country’s stabilisation process. Together, we will not allow the terrorists to hinder the ongoing process of peace and reconciliation.”
