“Allow me to express my sincerest congratulations to Ghassan Salamé for his recent appointment as United Nations Special Envoy for Libya and I wish him all the success possible,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano.
He added: “I am sure that Ghassan Salamé will know how to exercise his delicate role with wisdom and balance. Italy reaffirms its commitment in favour of the stabilisation of Libya and its full support to the process, also through its position as non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. We believe that there is no military way out of the crisis and that the destiny of Libya must remain in the hands of the Libyan people. Libya for us is a historically strategic partner and the Italian-Libyan Forum, which is due to be held in Agrigento on 7-8 July, testifies to the importance of our bilateral relations.”
