Amendola in London, expresses his sympathy to the British people

The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Vincenzo Amendola, is in London today. The Italian top official, who is in the United Kingdom on an institutional mission, this afternoon went to the proximity of London Bridge, the scene of the other night’s terrible attack on the capital. Mr Amendola expressed Italy’s condolences to the British people, highlighting the great friendship that exists between Italy and the United Kingdom, which is also strengthened by the common commitment against international terrorism.

Later in the afternoon, Mr Amendola met with the Italian community at the Italian Consulate. The meeting opened with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the attack. Undersecretary Amendola reassured that for the time being no Italians were reported to be involved in the attack even if the Foreign Ministry’s Crisis Unit – together with the British authorities – is conducting all the necessary investigations into the case. Lastly, Mr Amendola reaffirmed the need to continue to work together to fight and defeat those who, through hatred, violence and fear, want to undermine peaceful and democratic coexistence.
