The outcome of the emergency medical repatriation of a young Italian missionary, who was hospitalised in extremely serious condition in Burkina Faso, where she was carrying out humanitarian aid activities, was a great success.
The young woman fell very ill a few days ago in Ouagadougou, where local physicians suggested that she be taken to Italy.
After evaluating the case, the Italian Embassy in Abidjan immediately expedited the repatriation procedure, relying on an aircraft of the Prime Minister’s Office.
“Thanks to the work of our Embassy, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Air Force, the Prefecture of Rome and the Tor Vergata Polyclinic, which made available a team of doctors and the necessary equipment, the missionary was brought back to Rome,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano.
He went on: “Operations such as these are extremely sensitive and complex, as speed is an essential factor and the Foreign Ministry plays an essential role in coordinating this excellent teamwork.”
