“As a member of the United Nations Security Council, Italy continues to promote global security and the international non-proliferation regime, by contributing to assure a proportionate and adequate response to Pyongyang,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, when commenting the Security Council’s unanimous approval of new sanctions against North Korea.
The Italian foreign minister pointed out that the new sanctioning measures take the humanitarian situation in North Korea into due consideration and outline the ways in which the Pyongyang Government can regain international legality.
He added: “The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea must immediately stop developing its nuclear and missile programme and refrain from increasingly resorting to self-isolation and defying the international community. Italy will continue to do its share in giving a firm and cohesive response to this challenge.”
