Emergency assistance operations for Venezuelans displaced in Brazil and Colombia

“We have arranged for a 500,000 Euro multilateral emergency financing – through the Italian cooperation service – to tackle the humanitarian crisis provoked by the massive flow of displaced Venezuelans in Brazil and Colombia.”

The statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, who specified that the intervention will be implemented by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which is on the front line in assuring basic assistance to the hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan civilians who have been fleeing into the neighbouring Countries in the last few days.”

More specifically, the financing of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation to the UNHCR – which is equally divided into 250,000 Euros to each one of the two Countries – will enable the financing of emergency assistance operations for Venezuelan civilians on the borders with Brazil and with Colombia, including medical services and the distribution of relief supplies, especially to the more vulnerable categories such as children.
