Aid from the Italian Cooperation Agency to the Population of Zimbabwe

Upon request of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ms. Emanuela Del Re, the Italian Cooperation Agency has approved an aid package for the population of Zimbabwe, which has been hit by a recent cholera epidemic that broke out in the capital Harare. A total amount of 400,000 euros was appropriated for UNICEF and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). UNICEF is taking care of water sanitation and hygiene to prevent the epidemic from spreading to the capital’s street children, while the IFRC is focusing mostly on improving access to essential healthcare services and the distribution of drugs and medical equipment to the population. Also, a container with anti-cholera medication will be shipped from the UN Humanitarian Response Depot in Brindisi, which will be donated to the IFRC by the Italian Cooperation Agency.
