The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, chaired the annual meeting of the National Committee for Humanitarian Action against Anti-personnel Mines held at the Farnesina today, which was attended by major civil society organisations in the field of humanitarian demining.
Italy is staunchly committed towards the universalisation of Conventions against Anti-personnel and Cluster Munitions. Thanks to the Humanitarian Demining Fund (which provides a total 3,656,000 Euros for actions in 2018), our Country is in the forefront in financing the clearing of contaminated territories, informing the population and in assisting survivors in several parts of the world (Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Jordan, Palestine, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Colombia).
The Deputy Foreign Minister said: “Italy not only makes funds available to Countries contaminated with land mines but also offers its technical know-how and experience in the sector. The Italian Armed Forces are directly engaged in operations to clear foreign theatres from explosive remnants of war.”
Deputy Foreign Minister Del Re also expressed her heartfelt thanks for the disinterested engagement of professionals and volunteers from our civil society, who contribute to confer an unquestionable prestige to Italy among the international donors engaged in humanitarian activities.
