The Farnesina hosted the preparatory meeting for the Inter-ministerial Committee on Development Cooperation (CICS) chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, and attended by the representatives of public administrations sitting on the Committee, including the Undersecretary for the Environment, Salvatore Micillo.
The meeting focused on illustrating the draft Development Cooperation and Policy Orientation three-year plan 2019-2021, the principal framework of reference for the Italian Development Cooperation System which includes strategies and objectives, intervention criteria and the choice of geographical and sectoral priorities and, more in general, the policy and strategic orientations of Italy’s membership in European and international organizations and multilateral financial institutions.
As recalled by Deputy Minister Del Re, the draft plan is the fruit of discussion and debate between public administrations, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and other civil society organizations of the Italian Development Cooperation System, in full compliance with the principles of inclusion and partnership that inspired the 2014 reform of the Italian Cooperation System.
The Director-General of the Development Cooperation Directorate of the Foreign Ministry, Giorgio Marrapodi, made a synthetic overview of the resources to be allocated, with the specific appropriations to be made through different financing channels, and also focused on Italy’s action in humanitarian and emergency crises and on the effectiveness of cooperation actions and project assessment.
