Second annual session of the Joint Committee on Development Cooperation

The Farnesina hosted the second annual session of the Joint Committee of Development Cooperation, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re. The Joint Committee approved a package of initiatives comprehensively worth 111 million euros, 85 million of which destined to tied aid for vocational training and education in Jordan. The meeting also approved bilateral cooperation financing in favour of Egypt and Sudan and contributions to Egypt, Tunisia and Palestine and to United Nations Agency programmes.

In opening the Committee’s working session, the Deputy Minister first of all asked to keep a minute of silence for the 157 victims of the airplane crash on 10 March in Ethiopia, which included 8 Italians operating in the world of international cooperation and solidarity. The Deputy Minister then informed the participants on the result of her recent mission to the international organization district in Geneva, where she co-chaired a meeting on establishing an international day against childhood diarrhoea: “a campaign perfectly in line with the call by the Secretary General of the United Nations to focus greater attention on access to hygiene and sanitary services and drinking water.”

Today’s session was preceded by a contribution by Professor Fabrizio Tassinari, professor at the European University Institute, who presented a training programme for African leaders promoted by the School of Transnational Governance of the Fiesole-based Institute.
