Notice by Undersecretary Scalfarotto

Under-Secretary Ivan Scalfarotto took part in a videoconference on the Eastern Partnership chaired by the High Representative for Foreign Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr Borrell, with the participation of the Foreign Ministers of the EU Member States and the six countries of the Eastern Neighbourhood (Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan).

During the debate on the future priorities of the Eastern Partnership, the Undersecretary stressed that Italy pays particular attention to the adoption of a non-divisive approach and the strengthening in the post-202020 perspective of cooperation with the six Partners on issues such as non-discrimination, gender equality, the fight against corruption, transparency and the rule of law, intensifying the synergy on EU strategic objectives such as green and digital transformations.

Deepening the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the six countries, Scalfarotto finally commented that “the European aid package has been a concrete response to the immediate needs of the crisis. The solidarity expressed in recent months by Europe confirms the idea of an Eastern Partnership as a project based on shared values and aimed at strengthening prosperity, stability and democracy for the benefit of the six partner countries and the Union itself”.
