Minister Di Maio holds talks with members of the UK Government

“Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, held talks with the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Dominic Raab, and the Secretary of State for International Trade, Elizabeth Truss. At the centre of the talks was the common desire to ensure an effective strategic partnership between Italy and the United Kingdom also in the post-Brexit era, first and foremost by strengthening of the consultation mechanisms between the respective Foreign Ministries.

2021 will be an intense year for Italy-UK collaboration: the Italian Presidency of the G20 and the British Presidency of the G7 will provide the opportunity to focus on the global response to the pandemic and the strengthening of health services. In this perspective, the importance of strong cooperation to support vaccine research and to ensure the orderly management of international travel, based on objective and up-to-date epidemiological data, has been stressed by both sides.

In the field of environmental protection and the fight against climate change, Rome and London will work together for the success of the Climate Ambition Summit in December and co-chair the COP26.
