Vice Minister Marina Sereni has presided over the fourth annual meeting of the Joint Committee for Development Cooperation, attended by the Director General for Development Cooperation, Giorgio Marrapodi, and Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, Luca Maestripieri. Furthermore, the Director General for Italians Abroad and Migratory Policies, Luigi Maria Vignali, has presented a memo on the Migrations Fund. The Committee meeting has also been attended by representatives from the other Administrations, competent for the matters dealt with, from the Regions and Autonomous Provinces Conference, and from associations representing local authorities.
The meeting has deliberated on Voluntary Contributions to International Organisations, and on bilateral and multilateral initiatives in Africa and Asia, for a total amount of 14,5 million euros, as well as on some important deeds and instruments for the functioning of Italy’s Cooperation System.
In particular, voluntary contributions of 6 million euros in favour of the Italian Red Cross Committee, and of 1,7 million euros in favour of the International Organisation for Migration (OIM) are worthy of note. In relation to the finalised contributions, almost one and a half million has been assigned to a research project in Ethiopia and Djibouti of the International Biotechnology Centre in Trieste; 1,1 million to a project in Pakistan run by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for monitoring glaciers to ward off a hydrogeological risk; 1,5 million to the National Diaspora Forum, and over 2 million to support, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Burkina Faso.
