Italy warmly welcomes the news of the reopening of the coastal road between Sirte and Misurata. Minister Di Maio said: “This is a step that the Libyan people and the international community have long been waiting for, an important development towards the reunification of the country, which can now foster further decisive steps in the full implementation of the ceasefire”.
Also in its capacity as co-chair of the Working Group on Security of the Follow-up Mechanism of the Berlin Conference, Italy reiterates its strong appreciation for the commitment of the members of the Joint Military Commission (JMC 5+5) in achieving this goal, which must now be followed by the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, starting with the withdrawal of all foreign fighters and mercenaries from the country.
Minister Di Maio then added: “Italy confirms its commitment to supporting Libya on the path towards full stabilisation and institutional consolidation.
