Della Vedova visits Strasbourg for the Italian Presidency of the Council of Europe

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Benedetto Della Vedova, is visiting Strasbourg today in view of the of start of Italy’s Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (17 November 2021 – 20 May 2022).

During his visit, he will meet with the Secretary General of the CoE, Marija Pejcinović Burić, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Dunja Mijatovic, the President of the Venice Commission, Gianni Buquicchio, and the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Robert Spano.

Della Vedova will address with his counterparts the priorities that our country has selected for its Presidency, in line with the traditional key themes of our international action for the protection and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms. These priorities, announced by Minister Di Maio to Parliament on 31 March, at the hearing on policy guidelines, are the following: women’s rights/fight against gender-based violence; children’s rights/youth policies; impact of artificial intelligence on human rights, democracy, rule of law; protection of the cultural heritage.
