Farnesina Secretary General, Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi, met with Azerbaijan Ambassador in Rome, Mammad Ahmadzada

The Secretary General of the Farnesina, Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi, met today with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Rome, Mammad Ahmadzada.

The Secretary General expressed satisfaction with the quality and intensity of bilateral relations between Italy and Azerbaijan, as confirmed by the conversation between Prime Minister Draghi and President Aliyev last March and by Minister Di Maio’s visit to Baku in April, which also marked the beginning of the first session of the strategic dialogue between the two countries.

During the talks, Ambassador Sequi and Ambassador Ahmadzada zeroed in on the major items of the bilateral agenda, on cooperation in the economic sphere and on the common efforts aimed at stabilising the regional context, also in view of the most recent developments of the conflict in Ukraine. The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange congratulations letters from the respective Foreign Ministers on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and Azerbaijan, which falls this year.

Ambassador Sequi and Ambassador Ahmadzada stressed once again the excellent state of bilateral relations and agreed on the importance of further consolidating dialogue on regional and global issues.
