Bilateral consultations between the Secretary General, Amb. Sequi, and the Canadian Deputy Minister, Marta Morgan

Secretary General, Amb. Ettore Francesco Sequi, held consultations today at the Farnesina with the Canadian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marta Morgan.

The meeting made it possible to take stock of the excellent bilateral relations, in particular in the economic, scientific, and cultural spheres, in the framework of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two Countries. Amb. Sequi and Deputy Minister Morgan condemned the Russian aggression against Ukraine and discussed the serious humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict. They also exchanged views on the main regional (Indo-Pacific, Mediterranean, Afghanistan) and global topics, with a focus on the transatlantic relations, the United Nations and human rights, food and energy security.

Amb. Sequi and Deputy Minister Morgan reaffirmed the close strategic relationship between Italy and Canada within NATO, the G7, and the relationships between the EU and Canada, committing to further strengthen unity of action between the two sides of the Atlantic ocean in the current international situation.

Lastly, the Secretary General and the Deputy Minister reaffirmed their strong commitment to multilateralism and the rules-based international order – also in relation to the international trading system – as well as their support for the promotion of sustainable, fair, and gender-sensitive development in international cooperation.
