Deputy Minister Edmondo Cirielli attended the commemoration of the Russian Federation’s aggression at the Embassy of Ukraine in Rome

On Friday 24 February, at 10 a.m., the Embassy of Ukraine in Rome commemorated the first anniversary of the Russian Federation’s aggression.

Deputy Minister Cirielli attended the ceremony on behalf of the Italian government. During the event, the Deputy Minister stressed how the war had undermined the foundations of the international community.

“Over the last 12 months, we have witnessed all kinds of barbarities: indiscriminate bombings on Ukrainian cities and fundamental infrastructure, disregarded freedom and basic human rights,” stated the Deputy Minister. He also recalled how Italy and the Euro-Atlantic allies have firmly opposed the heinous war campaign launched by Putin, thus restating the supremacy of freedom over oppression, rights over chaos, solidarity over indifference.

Ultimately, the Deputy Minister reconfirmed Italy’s unconditional support to Ukraine’s government, sovereignty and independence, the same recurring concepts that the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni discussed with President Zelensky, including during her last visit to Kyiv.
